Amanda Knox Cartwheel Review: Standup Tells Her Story on Stage 2026

Amanda Knox's Cartwheel review reveals a rookie standup who, acquitted of murder, takes the stage to tell her story in her own defiant way. The show, performed at the Edinburgh fringe, blends personal trauma with motherhood, offering audiences a raw and often uncomfortable glimpse into her life.

Amanda Knox Cartwheel: A Controversial Fringe Debut

Knox opens with the line, "Welcome to the most controversial show on the fringe!" It's a self-aware admission that some will see as self-regard, while others recognize it as a nod to the ongoing attempts to silence her. As she puts it, she's "the human version of the blue/gold dress," a canvas onto which people project guilt, innocence, or simply weirdness.

Her innocence is now legally proven, but in Cartwheel, Knox takes on the charge of being "weird" by retelling her oft-told tale through the lens of new motherhood. The show isn't a traditional comedy set; it's a narrative performance that includes folding children's clothes and dialoguing with the voice of her four-year-old daughter.

Standup Comedy or Personal Testimony?

Classifying Cartwheel as comedy may be a misstep, as it risks looking insensitive and inaccurately describes the show. However, Knox would likely be damned whatever she did. The performance articulates a growing anger at her treatment and a determination to raise her daughter not to be silenced, but "to be the exact girl I was punished for being."

Audiences seeking insight into what it's like to be Amanda Knox will find it here, as episodes from her "extremely prolonged and public trauma" are recounted with a mix of rueful humor and sharp fury. She even reimagines her story as a Dr. Seuss book: "Knox the fox in a box with locks."

Motherhood and Fury: Key Themes in Knox's Show

Becoming a mother has refined Knox's understanding and sharpened her anger at everything she and her own mother have endured. When her baby's birth was greeted with hateful online abuse, it only fueled her resolve. The show includes several adroit jokes, though they elicit more rueful smiles than laughs, reflecting her inexperience as a comedian.

Despite this, Knox shapes and performs this umpteenth telling of her story well. The spirit of defiance is stirring, and the performance is respectful, offering a powerful statement about reclaiming one's narrative.
