Step by step on how to make your own alien-shaped wood burner

Step 1: Have a little bottle…

It is important to know that all LPG cylinders remain the property of the LPG cylinder for their entire useful life and you should take great care before attempting to cut an LPG cylinder. The bottles I used for this project are from companies that are no longer listed.

I first had the bottles professionally sandblasted to remove all the paint before I started marking.

Step 2: The first cut is the deepest

Once I marked out some initial shapes, I cut using my grinder and ultra-thin cutting discs. The hardest part here was trying to get the longer cylinder to bend... Although nothing beats a closed fist...

The diamonds on top are cut for chimneys that extend to the back.

Step 3: Two become one

With a little coaxing from my mallet, I tapped the long cylinder onto the top of the fat one to create the initial shape of the head. I used a 50mm box section to create the chimneys at the top.

Step 4: Jaws of Death

I used my grinder to cut out the center of the bottle to create the jaw shape and used the edge of the LPG carry handles to outline and detail the Alien visor. The larger nipple on the lower jaw is made from an old Landrover spring.

Step 5: Teeth, teeth and more teeth

With the lower teeth in place, I began to build the jaw and upper teeth. The Aliens inner jaw was fabricated and welded to the two parts of the tendon that join the upper and lower jaws. The entire lower and upper jaw were hinged on the left side to allow the user to open the face to place wood.

Step 6: Shiny

Once I detailed the burner, I used a pad with a lid to clean everything.

Step 7: Black Color Tone

The burner was finished with ultra high temperature black stove paint, then I used my grinder attachment and wire brush to hit the black to bring out the details. As well as adding an ultra-high temperature transparent lacquer to the entire burner.

Step 8: Up and running

Finally you can light the fire and enjoy a great show with your own burner.
