Building Hanging Pallet Gardens, I designed this pallet project to display something I love in a place I love, namely: flowers, plants, and my front porch. It occupies zero floor space. And it's what I call an 'open barrier'.
Step 1: Dismantle a Pallet Platform

Cutting the end sections and the center section conveniently created the pot...
Almost. I also had to cut planks from the rest of the platform for backrests and bottoms. I used my reciprocating saw to cut the nails.
Tools of choice:
Reciprocating saw to cut nails, and a circular saw (even cordless is ideal) to cross-cut the pallet pieces.
Step 2: The rope

The big challenge with the rope was to prevent it from fraying at the ends and unraveling.
I purchased 1 inch polyester line from a home center and fused the ends with my Bernzomatic torch.
It would have taken six years to do this with matches or a lighter.
Then I ran about 4 feet of line for each vertical, tied a knot at one end, and used a 1-inch pipe collar screwed to the L to hold them in place.
I then spaced each planter box about 1 foot apart along the line and secured with 2 screws on each side (total: 4 per box).
Tip:
Drive a scratch punch or nail placed through the fibers of the rope to create a small channel, then drive the screw in and tighten.
I used the screws again, which compressed the rope against the platform and locked everything together.
Step 3: The hanging part

I hung my pallet project from my porch, which means I needed something to connect the ropes and something to connect everything to the porch.
To summarize, I made an L out of two pallet boards and some 2 inch Spax washer head screws.
I used them because I knew the threads would cut well into the wood of the deck and that the flat heads wouldn't clump together and create splits.
Step 4: Bottom
Using extra pieces left over from the pallet, I attached the bottoms to the pot boxes.
It's okay if there are gaps. Planting boxes are supposed to leak.
Fill and plant.
I filled the potting boxes with soil and compost, planted one of my all-time favorite plants: amaranth.
They will turn fleshy and red and give me color in a place I love to hang out until fall.
Step 5: Enjoy and let us know what you think!

These plants turn abundant and red and give me color in a place where I love to hang out until fall. Greetings!
