In this article we will teach you how to make resistant tires for bicycles, so that they resist any type of puncture.
After some tires were punctured, we decided to build a tire that can effectively resist punctures resulting from thorns or other slightly pointed objects.
How to have resistant tires on your bicycle

A range of tools and materials will be required. These tools are common in many homes and include:
Tools:
- A 15 mm wrench
- 2 flat head screwdrivers (I used a knife)
- A knife
- A pneumatic pump
- A tube
- An old tire (it was lying around the house for a few years)
- A new or used tire
Step 2: Remove the wheel from the bicycle

You'll want to start by removing the tire from the bike using a 15mm wrench to unscrew the lug nuts holding the wheel in place. Also, be sure to disengage the brakes to make wheel removal much easier (as shown in the image).
Step 3: Remove the wheel from the rim
You can do this by: Lifting the tire off the wheel with two screwdrivers (i.e. insert one screwdriver into the gap between the tire and rim, and pull down. Then, insert the other screwdriver about 5cm from where the other screwdriver is placed and move the screwdriver around the tire to remove it.
Step 4: Shaping the old tire to fit

For this step, you want to minimize the size of the old tire so that it can fit your new or reused tire. I did this by using a sharp knife to cut and remove the edges of the tire (as shown in the pictures).
You want to make sure that the only part of the old tire you have left is the flat section of the tire. As you can see in the second picture, I made the mistake of cutting the tire too big, and when I tried to fit it on my tire, it was simply too big, so I cut the recycled tire to fit.
Step 5: Insert the cut tire

After this step, you want to insert the cut tire into the new or reused tire that is going back to the bike.
This can be achieved by simply inserting the cut tire into the tire you want to reuse on the bike. However, when you insert the tire, you will face the situation that the tire does not completely fit the tire that is intended to be put back on the bicycle, therefore, the tire that is inserted must be cut so that it can fit and be reused on the bicycle.
To cut the tire, I used a knife, measured the overlapping parts and cut them to make a perfect fit.
Step 6: Replace the air chamber

After this, you want to insert the new tire inner tube you purchased, however, this needs to be inflated with a slight amount of air so that it can return to its circular shape. After this, the inner tube can be placed in the tire.
Step 7: Put the tire on the rim

Before doing this, you need to make sure that the air valve of the inner tube is in line with the valve hole of the moment, then insert the valve into the valve hole and place the tire on the rim. Fixing the tire to the rim can be achieved by pressing one side of the tire into place and then the other side. You can use a screwdriver to help you with this process, but you must be careful not to puncture the tire.
Step 8: Inflate the tire

After reinstalling the tube into the tire, it's time to inflate it
Step 9: Reinstall the wheel on the bike

After inflating the wheel, you want to install it back on the bike, using the 15mm wrench to tighten the bolts. Don't forget to engage the brakes again!
Step 10: Conclusion and improvements

You should now have a bike that has thorn-resistant tires, meaning it will be stronger if you get a puncture. This project is not only intended to protect your tires from thorns, but also from other punctured objects (like glass, etc.). Another advantage that this wheel offers is that in the event of a puncture, the wheel will remain somewhat stiff, meaning that the bike can continue riding in fairly comfortable conditions. Additionally, the wheel requires less pressure to be fully inflated as the volume of the tire takes up space on the wheel, therefore driving conditions will be a little better.
- Insert more layers to get stronger tires.
- Use lighter materials to lose weight.
- Create a completely tubeless tire using only recycled tires
- Using a more thorn-resistant air chamber along with the addition of an additional layer of protection
- Apply this idea to the rear and front wheels
