Shopping list:

• 1 – 2x2 8 feet long, another 6"x6" piece of plywood and 1 – 2x12 or 1x12 cut into a round circle (you can also purchase plywood for a stool top at most hardware stores)
• 1 – 3/4“ All-wire 16” long (if you can't find 16” all-wire, you can easily cut it with a jigsaw or a blade designed for cutting metal)
• 1 – 3/4″ floor flange to match all thread
• 2 bolts and washers to match all thread
• 2-1/2” pocket screws
• 3″ screws or lag bolts to attach cross supports to legs

Tools:

• Velocity square
• Drill
• Circular saw
• Miter saw
• Nails
• Hammer
• Tape measure

General instructions:

Check and make sure that the safety equipment you have is in good condition. It is also advisable to review the Introduction section. Work on a clean, level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards.

Check the square after each step. Always drill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finishing nails for a stronger hold. Wipe excess glue off bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck!

Adjusts between seat and opposite height stool heights.

• 1 – 3/4″ thick plywood, 6″ x 6″
• 4 – 2×2 @ 15-1/2” long, long point to short point, both ends cut 15 degrees from square, parallel to each other
• 4 – 2×2 @ 8-3/8” long, long tip to long tip, both ends cut 15 degrees square, ends NOT parallel to each other

Step 1 instructions

The best way we found to attach the legs to the base is with 1-1/2" pocket holes from the bottom, using 2-1/2" pocket screws and glue. Please take a second to confirm that the outside to outside leg measurement matches the diagram.

Step 2 instructions

There are easier ways, but we felt this was the right balance between difficulty and getting a nice project at the end.

Use a table saw or circular saw to notch the cross support pieces (note that notches one on the top and one on the bottom), 3/4" deep. You can do this by making multiple cuts with the saw blade at 3/4″ in the notching area, and then remove any excess material with a chisel.

Step 3 instructions

Place the cross supports on the legs. Do not join the actual cross supports together, as a bolt will have to go through the center of them.

Step 4 instructions

Place the floor flange in the center of the seat (we used a 2x12 scrap cut with a jigsaw) and thread the thread into the flange.

Step 5 instructions

Make improvements to the basee large enough to allow all the thread to pass through. Place the seat with all threads on the base, with a nut and washer on each side of the base. Tighten the nuts to secure.

Step 6 instructions

The button and the seat up or down. NOTE: Once you have the desired seat, make sure the nuts are still tight.

Preparation instructions:

Start filling all the holes with wood filler and let dry. Apply additional layers of wood filler as needed. When the wood filler is completely dry, project in the direction of the wood grain with 120 grit grit paper. Vacuum sand project to remove sanding residue.

Remove all sanding residue on work surfaces as well. Wipe the project with a damp cloth. It is always recommended to apply a test coat to a hidden area or scrap piece to ensure color consistency and adhesion. Use primer or wood conditioner as needed.
