Pallet Coffee Table with Nintendo NES Design, it is an absolute pleasure to create something that reminds you of the happy days of childhood when playing on that console was something you had to earn by doing all the chores and you became very happy when parents said yes.
Anyway, this article is pretty straightforward (as any wooden pallet will do for this project) but the end result is really amazing, at least to me.
Step 1: Tools and materials

As I said, this project took a good amount of hours of work (for sanding and painting) it's really very simple and it's very difficult to do.
Tools:
- Electric sander(s)
- Drill
- Paint brush
- Sandpaper
Materials:
- 2 x standard size wooden pallets (in the EU it is 120 x 80 x 14.5 cm)
approximately 1.3 l of paint (1 l black + 0.05 l red + 0.05 l gray + 0.2 white) - 4 Bolts with nuts
- 4 Standard Furniture Casters
- Adhesive tape
So, the first thing is to rearrange the pallets to "fill all the blanks" on the Upper Pallet: I have managed to remove the boards from the Lower Pallet and force them onto the Upper Pallet.
I was also lucky enough to find some fantastic beech wood pallets (they are usually made from cheaper, lighter pine wood), so the overall result was even better.
After this reorganization, it was all about sanding, sanding, sanding.
Step 2: Painting and assembly

Over the last few months of extensive Pallet work I've done, I've found that using concrete paints is definitely best when doing something like this:
They are cheap; very resistant to rain, sun, scratches, etc. You really only need one coat, because they cover the wood amazingly well (even when you paint with a brush); You can use them with a compressor/brush and they are cheaper than any other paint.
The very good alternative is water-based paint: they are a little more expensive, but still the best option if you are making something like a dining table (due to the minimal content of chemical compounds inside). I have combined both types of paint with this one.
After painting the table in primary paint, it's time to create some masking tape.
The pictures explain it better than words, you just need a little practice and the outlining should go easily, the only problem area is the movement arrows area where you have to be a little careful.
Casters are a must if you ask me (but not required of course) because your table will be quite heavy and moving it (especially on the rug I have) would be difficult to do without them.
Step 3: The final result

And that's it! The only additional thing I did was these speakers aftereros that I had from my home theater system, I had no way to use them properly (due to the strange layout of the living room), so I decided to "install" them inside the bottom pallet so that I would receive sound at my feet.
To do this I had to make a small hole in my carpet (a few millimeters in diameter, just enough for the cables to pass through the channel) but this is absolutely imperceptible. That's all!
