Once the pieces fit together, remove them and number them to aid in placement after placing the assembly.

Step 3: Mix more Thinset

Wet the cement board with a sponge to clean and moisten it, which helps create a stronger bond.

Then mix a new batch of set according to package directions in a 5-gallon bucket.

Stir together with the drill and mixer attachment until the consistency resembles peanut butter.

Mix the mixture a little thicker at first; You can always add more water, but you should not add more mixture.

Let sit for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Lay the tile

Plan for him to leave the room while you lay the tiles.

Working quickly from your starting point, apply a thin coat of set to a small area of the cement board.

Use the notched side of the paddle and wear gloves.

Step 5: Adhere Tile

Use the smooth side of the trowel to apply a smooth coat of thinset to the back of a tile. Place the piece firmly on the cement board.

Repeat with another tile, using tile spacers to ensure even placement.

Wipe away any excess grease with a sponge.

Step 6: Move forward

Once the section is full of tiles, move to an adjacent section, repeating the application of the set on the cement board and the individual tiles.

Cut tiles to fit around obstructions, such as doors.

Allow the fitting assembly to set for the recommended time to ensure a strong bond before walking on it.

Step 7: Clean Tiles

After the set dries, clean the tiles with a damp sponge. If any joint has been spilled between the tiles, use a grout scraper to remove the dried joint.

Step 8: Mix the Grout

Using a 5-gallon bucket, drill, and mixing attachment, mix the grout, following package directions.

Add water little by little to obtain a consistencysimilar to very thick peanut butter. Allow the grout to rest as indicated.

Take out a piece of grout.

Using a rubber float and gloves, push the grout in a back-and-forth pattern across a section until the joints fill evenly between the tiles.

Step 10: Remove Grout Haze

After you have grouted a section of tile, use a slightly damp sponge to remove the first layer of grout, being careful not to disrupt the seam line.

Continue stacking the floor, moving from small section to small section and removing the first layer of mist as you go.

Step 11: Add Transition Strips

Apply transition strips where the tile floor ends and another floor surface begins. Glue or nail in place.

Step 12: Apply sealant

After the recommended curing time (ours was 28 days), apply a grout sealer to the joints with a sponge brush. Let dry.
