Steps to Build a Cool Concrete Sink, I'm going to show you how I built my custom concrete sink for my master bathroom, saving me hundreds of dollars instead of having one made for me.
Step 1: Materials and tools

Depending on the size of the receiver you are creating, you will likely need some or all of the following materials. The sink I created is 21″ x 48″.
Materials needed:
- Rough rock edge lining (optional)
- Silicone
- Sink mold
- Mold release wax
- Rubber gaps for sinks
- Denatured alcohol
- 2 Pieces of 48″ wire mesh
- Concrete mix
- Melamine sheets to form the mold
Tools needed:
- Vibrator, sander or concrete saw (without blade)
- Fine-grit sandpaper (120/220 grit)
- Router
- Angle grinder
Step 2: Building the bottom shape

The shape of the sink I built is 50″ x 21 1/2″ x 2″ deep because I want a half-inch overhang around the top and front sides of the sink (the hard rock liner adds an extra 1/2″ on each side)
The form is screwed in with drywall screws and then uses silicone to seal all the edges and keep the liner in place if you are using it. You can use any color silicone you want, I used black because it is easier to see against the white melamine.
In the center, place the sink mold. Measure and trace the area where you want to place the sink mold. Next, attach the mold to the melamine with a small bead of silicone sealant on each corner. This will help level the mold initially, then run a bead of silicone along the outside edge.
I have coated the mold with 3 coats of mold release wax to prevent the concrete from sticking. I also have 3 rubber holes from the sink that are siliconed in the place where the accessory will go. Make sure you know which sink fixture you are going to use first so you know where to place the holes and how many you will need.
Step 3: Creating the top form

Then, build the second part of the shape on top of this base. I am building this second part of the form separate from the base to prevent excess debris from falling into the pouring area.
Once the second form is built, it is placed on top of the first form. The box is 2″ wider than the sink mold on all sides and sloped in the front to follow the slope of the sink mold.
Clean the entire form with denatured alcohol to remove excess silicone and residue. Next, add a full coat of Non-Stick Spray to help prevent concrete from sticking to the edge coating and choking.
I also have 2 – 48″ pieces of 3/8″ rebar to help reinforce the top of the sink. I place one in front and one in the back to help support any extra weight. You can also use wire mesh if you want.
Step 4: Pour the concrete

Start by filling the bottom form with concrete. This part may seem simple, but it will require a lot of labor. Once you've filled the bottom shape, use your tool to remove any bubbles.
Now, add the top shape on top of the mold and fill this area as well. Make sure there are no small gaps or holes where the concrete could fill, or it could cause you some headaches. (It happened to me because I had a small space)
Once you have poured all the concrete, cover the wet concrete in plastic and let it sit for 4 days before removing the forms.
Step 5: Refining the sink

After the concrete has dried for approximately 4 days, you can now begin removing the liners and mold. Once these are removed, use fine-grit sandpaper, which should help expose any remaining holes that need to be filled.
Then use a very fine cement which helps fill the small holes and gaps created during the drying process. Go over the surface of the sink and make sure these holes are filled and the surface is smooth.
Use an angle grinder to grind and clean the dried concrete if necessary. Mine was a little uneven at the bottom of the sink so I decided to clean it up a bit. This is a good time to deal with any balance issues or imperfections you may find at the bottom.
Finally, add several coats of concrete sealer if desired. To give your sink a different color look if you wish, or you can choose to keep the raw concrete look.
Step 6: Finished!
