Having a wooden bathroom stool allows us to evacuate more freely and in a healthier way, since this object improves our sitting position.
Considering that billions of people in Asia still do it this way, and all humans did it for almost our entire existence, it seems like a good argument.

Instead of buying one of the molded plastics that look like a cheap product from the medical industry, I decided to make something out of hardwood that you might want to look at.
If it goes in my house, it better be elegant.
#1: Design

- As usual, I'm using Fusion 360 for this project because you can easily work simultaneously in 2D and 3D, and the parametric features really help when you're going through many design iterations.
- Fusion has a 30-day free trial, after which you can choose to continue as an “Enthusiast” with a free 1-year non-commercial license.
- I based the dimensions of this stool (no pun intended) on a friend's ready-made version.
- The foot supports are angled at approximately 5º, and measure approximately 20″ WX 9″ H X 12″ D. There is a U-shaped cutout at the top so you can store it against the toilet when not in use. and added arches to the bottoms of the side boards to act as feet.
- There is a "beam" along the front for lateral stability.
- I filled in the corners because I wanted to keep the arch motif you see in the rest of the piece.
- If you want to save money on large format printing, you can print and use the 8.5 X 14 PDF file on a desktop printer using Legal size paper.
NOTE:
All printing must be done at 100% scale.
Do not use any type of scaling, such as "fit to page size," when printing templates, no matter what type of warning your program gives you.

#2: Tools and materials

- I used 3/4″ poplar for this project because it is hardwood and easy to find at any hardware store.
- It will sand to a fine finish, which is important for easy cleaning, and will make for a strong finished product.
- First, I glued two 10″ wide planks together to make a monolithic panel.
- After cutting the pieces, all you need is a palm sander, clamps, wood filler, and some wood glue.
- I chose to finish mine using several coats of butcher oil, but it would probably be a good idea to use a high-gloss polyurethane or some other polished finish.
- The key here is that it should be easy to clean!
#3: Glue and clamp

- First, I attached the legs to the foot board.
- Corner clamps are great for ensuring you get consistent right angles, and I added a snap clamp in the center to make sure there was solid contact between the surfaces.
- I could use cookies or dowels in this step, but I didn't find it necessary because there is no end grain glue.
- Once the sides were dry, I added the beam with the filleted ends to the center of the edgefrom the source.
- This is here to add a little more stability to the footboard and prevent it from bending.
- Next, I added 3/4″
#4: Finishing

- Once all the glue was dry, I filled the handful of cracks with stable wood filler. Once it cured, I sanded the entire piece down to about 220 grit.
- This left a smooth surface that is easy to clean, with no stains or splinters to snag the cleaning cloth.
- When the sanding was done, I applied 3 coats of butcher block oil with several hours between each coat.
#5: Finished product

This wooden bathroom stool is not only a great idea but will also improve our health. I'm not going to get into the intimate medical details, but it's safe to say that I will never do it the wrong way again. That's all!
