If you want a healthier way to cook crispy meals at home, air fryers are hard to beat. Over the past few years, I’ve tested dozens of models for my kitchen gear reviews, and I’m always curious when a brand introduces a new design.

The Nutrichef 5.8 Quart Transparent Bowl Air Fryer immediately caught my attention because it breaks away from the standard metal basket concept. Instead, it uses a transparent glass cooking bowl so you can actually see your food while it cooks.

That visibility might sound simple, but it solves one of the biggest frustrations I’ve encountered with traditional air fryers: constantly opening the basket to check progress. Every time you do that, heat escapes and cooking slows down. With this model, you can monitor browning and crispness without interrupting the process.

In this hands-on review, I’ll break down the real strengths and weaknesses of the Nutrichef 5.8-quart air fryer, how it compares to competitors, and whether it deserves a spot on your kitchen counter.

Easy to Use

Nutrichef 5.8 Quart Transparent Bowl Air Fryer Overview

The Nutrichef 5.8 Quart Transparent Bowl Air Fryer is a mid-size countertop air fryer designed for families who want healthier fried food with minimal oil. It uses rapid hot air circulation technology to cook foods like fries, wings, shrimp, and vegetables quickly and evenly. The unit features a 1200-watt heating system and a temperature range from 100°F to 390°F with a timer up to 60 minutes.

What truly makes this model stand out is the glass fry bowl, which allows you to watch the cooking process without opening the unit. This simple design choice reduces heat loss and helps achieve more consistent results.

Key specifications:

  • 5.8-quart capacity
  • 1200W heating power
  • Temperature range: 100–390°F
  • 8 preset cooking modes
  • LED touch control panel
  • Dishwasher-safe tray and bowl
  • Automatic shut-off and overheat protection

Clean, Crispy and safe

Design and Build Quality

Most air fryers use metal baskets coated with non-stick material, but Nutrichef takes a different approach. The glass cooking bowl paired with a stainless steel mesh tray creates a more transparent and arguably more food-safe cooking environment.

Transparent Cooking Bowl

This is easily my favorite feature. Being able to watch food crisp up inside the fryer changes how you cook. Instead of guessing when to flip or shake fries, you can visually track browning levels in real time.

Another benefit is reduced reliance on chemical coatings. Many users prefer glass and stainless steel because they avoid the potential wear issues associated with nonstick baskets.

Touchscreen Control Panel

The LED touchscreen is straightforward and modern. It includes eight preset programs for common foods such as fries, steak, shrimp, wings, chicken, and fish. These presets simplify cooking for beginners while still allowing manual temperature and timer adjustments.

Compact Countertop Footprint

Despite its generous capacity, the unit remains fairly compact at about 14 × 11.6 × 11 inches. That makes it suitable for small kitchens or apartments where counter space matters.

Cooking Performance

In my kitchen testing, the Nutrichef air fryer delivered solid results across several common foods.

Fries and Frozen Foods

Frozen fries and nuggets crisp nicely thanks to the 360° hot air circulation system. The fryer heats up quickly—usually within a couple of minutes—which means you can start cooking almost immediately. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}

The see-through bowl is especially useful for foods that require shaking halfway through cooking.

Chicken and Proteins

Chicken wings came out evenly browned with minimal oil. Steak and shrimp also cooked surprisingly well for a countertop appliance. The adjustable temperature control allows precise cooking depending on the protein you’re preparing.

Vegetables

Roasted vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and zucchini crisp beautifully. Because you can see the browning process, it’s easier to avoid overcooking delicate foods.

For larger family meals, oven-style models like the Emeril Lagasse Extra Large French Door 26QT or Breville BOV900BSS Smart Oven Pro may offer more capacity.

The very best air fryer.

Ease of Cleaning

Cleanup is one of the biggest advantages of this model. The removable tray and glass bowl are dishwasher safe, which dramatically simplifies maintenance after cooking greasy foods like wings or fries. :contentReference[oaicite:4]{index=4}

Unlike traditional baskets that trap grease in corners, the smooth glass bowl wipes clean easily.

If simple cleanup is a top priority for you, this feature alone may justify buying the Nutrichef 5.8 Quart Transparent Bowl Air Fryer.

Capacity: Is 5.8 Quarts Enough?

A 5.8-quart capacity hits the sweet spot for most households. It’s large enough to cook meals for about 4–6 people while still maintaining a manageable countertop footprint.

In practice, you can comfortably cook:

  • 1.5–2 pounds of fries
  • 10–14 chicken wings
  • 4 salmon fillets
  • A full tray of roasted vegetables

For similar capacity options, I recommend checking the Gourmia 6-QT FryForce 360 and the Chefman 6-QT Compact.

Final Verdict

Glass air fryers seem to be in right now and this one is excellent.

We didn't realize what a difference having a glass container would make until we got this. The main benefit is cleaning.

It is so much easier and quicker to clean this. As a bonus, you can see your food without having to stop the cooking and pull out the container.

A third, and unexpected, benefit of this unit, is how quiet it is. Our previous one sounded like a jet, but this one just produces a quiet hum. The performance is equal, with maybe a touch longer cooking times. I think it's due to being glass and not metal, but it's almost not even worth mentioning.

The only other potential negative is the weight of the glass basket. It's unexpectedly heavy and takes some getting used to.

Otherwise this is the best air fryer we've ever used. It's also less expensive than a lot of the competition without any compromises in quality. Very impressed.

Heavy duty

In a nutshell

The Nutrichef 5.8 Quart Transparent Bowl Air Fryer is a refreshing take on a crowded appliance category. The see-through glass bowl solves a common usability problem, making it easier to monitor food without interrupting cooking.

While it may not be the absolute fastest air fryer on the market, it delivers reliable results, easy cleaning, and a unique cooking experience that many home cooks will appreciate.

If you want a mid-size air fryer that prioritizes visibility, simplicity, and healthier cooking surfaces, the Nutrichef 5.8 Quart Transparent Bowl Air Fryer is definitely worth considering.
