A Time of Transition in the Civil Service
Cameron's appointment is part of a broader reshuffle at the top of the UK civil service. Cat Little, formerly of the Cabinet Office, is moving to become permanent secretary at the Department for Business and Trade. Tom Riordan, a former local government official, will take the helm at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. These changes reflect a strategic realignment under the new government, aiming to bring fresh perspectives to key departments.

Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband praised Cameron's appointment, citing her "enormous experience across the fields of diplomacy, development and national security" and her "reputation for dynamic leadership." He emphasized that under her leadership, the FCDO will remain "committed to promoting British values and interests." Cabinet Secretary Antonia Romeo also commended Cameron's "excellent track record in security and diplomacy."
