The Manchester United record sale of Melvine Malard to Chelsea is nearing completion, with the France forward set to move for a fee that could reach approximately £850,000. This transfer marks a significant milestone for United's women's team, as it would be the highest sale in the club's history. The deal is expected to finalize soon, with both clubs in advanced discussions.
Transfer Details and Financial Impact
Reports indicate that the transfer fee for Melvine Malard is between £750,000 and £850,000. United attempted to extend her contract, which has one year remaining, but the 26-year-old sought a new challenge. By selling now, United avoids losing her on a free transfer next summer. The club plans to reinvest the funds into the squad ahead of the transfer deadline on 3 September.

Reunion with Sonia Bompastor at Chelsea
Malard previously played under Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor at Lyon, and the two share a longstanding friendship. Bompastor encouraged Malard to move from Réunion to Lyon as a teenager, and this reunion is a key factor in the transfer. Chelsea aims to strengthen their attacking options after also agreeing a new contract for England forward Aggie Beever-Jones.
Performance and Career Highlights
Last season, Malard scored four Champions League goals, helping United reach their first European quarter-final, and netted six times in the Women's Super League across 18 starts. She also represented France at Euro 2025. Below is a comparison of her recent stats:
| Competition | Goals | Appearances | Key Contribution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Champions League | 4 | 8 | Maiden quarter-final |
| WSL | 6 | 18 starts | Consistent scorer |
