Ann Widdecombe Murder Suspect Probed in Farage Burglary 2026

Police are investigating whether Joshua Kerry, the man charged with the murder of former Reform UK and Conservative politician Ann Widdecombe, had any role in an attempted burglary at Nigel Farage's London home. The Ann Widdecombe murder suspect is now at the center of a reopened inquiry that could link him to a separate incident involving the Brexit leader.

Reopened Investigation into Farage Incident

Kerry, 28, from Rotherham, was charged with the murder of Widdecombe, 78, who was killed at her Devon home in July. The case is being handled by counter-terrorism police, who have now reopened an investigation into an April 2025 incident at a London address where Farage was living at the time.

Police initially recorded the incident as an attempted burglary, though other sources describe it as attempted arson. Detectives are now studying fingerprints from the scene, CCTV footage, and video doorbell recordings. They also examined whether an accelerant like lighter fluid was used.

Key Details of the Farage Incident

• Incident reported in April 2025 at a Greater London address
• Initially recorded as attempted burglary, possibly arson
• No arrests were made initially; case was closed
• Counter Terrorism Policing has referred itself to the watchdog

Comparison of the Two Incidents

The Metropolitan Police initially handled the Farage incident with support from Counter Terrorism Policing London. The investigation was closed pending new lines of inquiry, but has now been reopened as part of the Widdecombe murder probe.

Police Watchdog Referral

On Friday, Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) said it had referred itself to the police watchdog over the initial investigation. CTP stated: "As part of the ongoing investigation led by Counter Terrorism Policing South East into the murder of Ann Widdecombe, officers have reopened an investigation into an incident reported to police last year."

They added that a line of enquiry was identified that was not pursued at the time, which may have been relevant. This has raised questions about the thoroughness of the initial police work.

What This Means for the Case

The connection between the two incidents could provide crucial evidence in the murder case. Forensic analysis of fingerprints and CCTV may establish whether Kerry was present at Farage's residence months before Widdecombe's death.

Legal experts note that such links can help establish patterns of behavior or potential motives. However, police have not confirmed any direct connection yet.

Key Takeaways

• Reopened investigation may link suspect to multiple incidents
• Fingerprint and CCTV evidence are being re-examined
• Watchdog review could lead to accountability for initial errors
