The Dodgers White House visit has sparked deep conflict among loyal fans, many of whom are torn between their love for the team and their opposition to Trump's immigration policies. For Juan, a lifelong Dodgers fan and son of Guatemalan immigrants, the decision to celebrate at the White House feels like a betrayal.
The Dodgers and Their Immigrant Fanbase
For decades, the Dodgers have been a symbol of integration for Los Angeles's large Latino community. The team’s multicultural roster and community outreach have made it a beloved institution. But as the Trump administration intensified immigration raids in 2025, many fans expected the organization to take a stand—similar to local soccer teams that issued statements of solidarity.

Instead, the Dodgers remained silent. Adding to the tension, Guggenheim Partners, the ownership group, holds a stake in the Geo Group, a private operator of immigration detention centers. This connection has left many fans feeling that the team profits from their community's suffering.
Personal Stories of Pain
Juan’s father was deported after nearly 30 years in the US. The family paid exorbitant fees for basic necessities in detention: $50 for a phone account, $80 for a cheap long-sleeve shirt. “The Dodgers charge $80 for a hoodie too,” Juan notes. “It feels like they’re part of the same system.”
Such stories are common among Latino Dodgers fans, creating a rift that the White House visit has only deepened. While some fans see the trip as a non-political honor, others view it as an endorsement of Trump’s policies.
