The call for Gianni Infantino to resign as FIFA president has intensified, with former FIFA chief Sepp Blatter and La Liga president Javier Tebas uniting to demand his ouster. Their criticism centers on Infantino's leadership, particularly his push to expand the World Cup to 64 teams by 2030, which they argue is destroying the football industry.
Why Blatter and Tebas Are Calling for Infantino's Resignation
Sepp Blatter, who led FIFA from 1998 to 2015, urged fans, players, and national associations to “reclaim football and bring it back to its roots under new leadership.” He believes Infantino has prioritized the World Cup over national competitions, eroding the sport's foundation. Javier Tebas echoed this sentiment, stating that Infantino is “destroying the football industry” by focusing on a 40-day event at the expense of domestic leagues that generate tens of thousands of jobs.

The World Cup Expansion Controversy
Infantino's plan to increase the 2030 tournament from 48 to 64 teams has drawn sharp criticism. Tebas told Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Increasing the number of national teams makes no sense. The football industry is not just the World Cup. National competitions support this sport.” Critics argue that such expansion dilutes quality and overburdens players, while benefiting only a minority of participants.
| Aspect | Current FIFA Approach | Critics' Proposal |

| World Cup size | Expanding to 64 teams by 2030 | Keep at 48 or fewer teams |
| Focus | Global tournament over domestic leagues | Protect national competitions |
| Impact on jobs | Short-term event benefits | Sustained employment through leagues |
