Pit diapers have become a disturbing trend among concert fans desperate to secure front row spots, leading performers like Olivia Rodrigo to notice the smell. This practice, where fans wear adult diapers to avoid leaving the barrier during long shows, highlights extreme fan behavior and the lengths people go for proximity to their idols.
The Rise of Pit Diapers in Concert Culture
Since the pandemic, live music fans have become increasingly possessive of front row positions. The cost of VIP pit tickets has skyrocketed, and social media value of clear gig footage is at a premium. Pit diapers are now a known item, with fans even urinating on floors at shows like Sabrina Carpenter's concert.

Why Fans Resort to Wearing Diapers
Several factors drive this behavior: long wait times, fear of losing a spot, and the desire for viral moments. Artists themselves have commented on it. Olivia Rodrigo said she smelled fans wearing diapers at her shows. Noah Kahan urged fans to just use the bathroom after a stadium worker cleaned up excrement.
Comparison of Fan Behaviors Before and After Pandemic
| Aspect | Pre-Pandemic | Post-Pandemic |
|---|---|---|
| Spot retention | Limited to natural breaks | Extreme measures like diapers |
| Cost of VIP | Moderate | Skyrocketed |
| Social media pressure | Low | High |
| Sanitary incidents | Rare | Common |
Key Takeaways for Concertgoers
- Plan ahead: Use restrooms before entering the pit and during breaks.
- Hydrate wisely: Drink water but not excessively before and during the show.
- Respect others: Avoid using diapers or urinating on the floor; it creates health hazards.
- Consider VIP amenities: Some venues offer re-entry passes for premium ticket holders.
- Spread awareness: Discuss the issue with fellow fans to discourage this behavior.
FAQ
What are pit diapers?
Pit diapers are adult diapers worn by concert fans to avoid leaving the front row to use the bathroom, often leading to unsanitary conditions.
Which artists have complained about this trend?
Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Kahan, and Sabrina Carpenter's concerts have all faced incidents related to fans using diapers or urinating on floors.
