County Cricket Surrey vs Hampshire Day One Highlights and T20 Blast 2026

County cricket returned with a thrilling opening day as Surrey faced Hampshire at The Oval, while T20 Blast action unfolded across the country. The match saw Dominic Sibley fall just short of a century after a controversial LBW decision, while Dan Lawrence and Will Jacks provided fireworks for Surrey. Meanwhile, the T20 Blast delivered edge-of-the-seat finishes, with several games reaching nail-biting conclusions.

Surrey vs Hampshire: A Day of Drama

Surrey elected to bat first on a pitch that offered early assistance to the bowlers. Opening pair Dom Sibley and Rory Burns weathered the early storm, but Burns fell to a sharp catch at slip off the bowling of Kyle Abbott. Sibley, playing with characteristic grit, looked set for a century before being trapped LBW by James Fuller for 85.

The dismissal sparked debate, with replays suggesting the ball may have pitched outside leg. Nevertheless, Sibley walked off to a warm ovation from the Surrey faithful. His innings included 12 boundaries and showcased his trademark patience against a disciplined Hampshire attack.

Lawrence and Jacks Counterattack

After Sibley's departure, Dan Lawrence and Will Jacks counterattacked with flair. Lawrence, who recently returned from England duty, struck a fluent 45 off 52 balls, including a majestic cover drive off Abbott. Jacks, meanwhile, smashed 62 off 68 deliveries, with six fours and two sixes, before being caught at point off Senuran Muthusamy.

At stumps, Surrey reached 285 for 5, with Jamie Smith unbeaten on 38 and Jordan Clark on 22. Hampshire's bowlers toiled hard, with Abbott finishing with 2 for 48 and Muthusamy claiming 2 for 55.
