Netflix brings revamped mobile app in time! What did he announce? 2026

Netflix wants to change its mobile app and is already planning its upgrade, which will be released later in 2026. With this move, the company wants to bring an app that will "better serve the expansion of our business over the next decade," according to co-CEO Greg Peters. The renewal of the mobile application comes in the context of the general change it makes to its graphical environment, across all platforms. 2025 saw the big change in the TV app, which changed the way we interact with the platform.

With the TV refresh, former head of product Eunice Kim said it was designed to "give us a more flexible canvas, now and in the future." Now, Peters is announcing that the mobile GUI will become the foundation for what's to come. Netflix wants to build an app that will become a platform on which they can continue to iterate, test, evolve and improve their offering as a company.

Peters also shared some details about the direction the company is moving, the app's GUI, when asked why vertical video isn't a higher priority for Netflix. The company is considering a vertical feed in the app for its show and movie clips, and could also include clips from Podcasts, now that the company is integrating them into its US platform.

The truth is that the vertical arrangement for movies and series is very ugly and not at all convenient for viewing. It is an outgrowth of social media such as TikTok and the reels of Facebook and Instagram, but this has ruined millions of videos taken by users, which cannot be adequately viewed on TV and computer.

Don't shoot videos in portrait orientation! Just don't do it! You have one device with a vertical layout and a bunch of devices with a horizontal layout and there is a reason for that. But that is a topic for another article.
