Somehow sending a single photon through optical fibers when there is also normal internet traffic, banking transactions, messages, any kind of digital noise, is a much more difficult process. The researchers use a specific example to help us understand this, which is that it's like trying to throw cotton candy into a huge river and hope it doesn't melt.

The research, which is available here describes just that. They managed to preserve the quantum information of a photon and teleport it alongside real internet traffic. Which amply proves that quantum communication can co-exist with existing network infrastructure.
