Argentine President Javier Milei is embarking on a tour of Latin America to meet far-right leaders, positioning himself as a key ally of Donald Trump and a rising figure in the region's conservative movement. This trip comes amid declining popularity at home and follows a wave of far-right electoral victories across Latin America.
Milei's Tour Itinerary and Key Meetings
Starting in Brazil, Milei will launch Senator Flávio Bolsonaro's presidential campaign against leftwing incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He then attends Keiko Fujimori's inauguration in Peru, followed by Abelardo de la Espriella's inauguration in Colombia, and finally travels to Ecuador to meet President Daniel Noboa. These stops underscore Milei's focus on strengthening ties with like-minded leaders.

Trade or Political Strategy?
While Milei has justified the trips as seeking to triple Argentina's trade, analysts question this motive. According to Benjamin Gedan, a senior fellow at the Stimson Center, Milei consistently remains deferential to Trump, avoiding any action that might upstage the U.S. president. The timing suggests a strategic move to lead the far-right bloc in Latin America.
