Mayo has finally broken the 75-year curse to become All-Ireland football champions, ending a drought that haunted the county for generations. The team triumphed over Kerry with a score of 1-20 to 1-17 in the 138th all-Ireland final at Croke Park, sparking euphoria across Ireland and among the global diaspora.
The End of a Legendary Curse
For decades, the so-called "Mayo curse" loomed over the county’s Gaelic football team. It was said that no member of the last winning team from 1951 would live to see another victory. While few took the superstition literally, the string of 11 final defeats since 1989 gave it unsettling weight. A book about Mayo’s quest was even titled House of Pain. Now, that narrative has been rewritten.
