Rodri faces an extended period out with a back injury that may require surgery, dealing a blow to Manchester City's hopes for the new season. The 30-year-old midfielder, who captained Spain to World Cup glory and won the Golden Ball, now faces another setback after a string of injury-plagued campaigns.
Rodri's Injury History and Current Setback
The back problem is the latest in a series of injuries that have hampered the Spaniard. Since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in September 2024, he has missed significant playing time. Subsequent hamstring and groin issues limited him to just 17 Premier League starts last season. Now, with a potential operation looming, his return date remains uncertain.

Potential Surgery and Recovery Timeline
Sources indicate that surgery may be required to resolve the back issue, which could rule Rodri out for several months. Manchester City's medical team is evaluating the best course of action. The club's new manager, Enzo Maresca, hopes to retain Rodri but faces an uphill battle given his contract expiring next June.
