DIY Chandelier: How to Make It from a Simple Box 2026

Sometimes, creating a DIY chandelier really takes very little: in our case, the light source, consisting of one or two bulbs, is completely separate from the lampshade, which is hung from the ceiling independently using two pairs of small cables attached to hook anchors and crossbars inserted between the plexiglass panels.

DIY Chandelier: What You Need

You need 5 pieces of 5 mm thick plexiglass: 4 colored rectangles 300 mm high (two 800 mm long and two 150 mm long), plus a transparent or colored diffuser measuring 770×120 mm. You also need 4 rods Ø 6×145 mm and 4 metal cables Ø 2×1000 mm with 8 cable clamps. The plexiglass can be chosen in the most suitable color. Building the Box

To make our DIY chandelier, we followed a few key steps.

Step 1: Prepare the Panels

• To increase the gluing surface, bevel the vertical sides of the panels at 45° by tilting the circular saw blade.
• On the inner faces of the long panels, drill 4 blind holes for the rods, 100 mm from the short sides and 15 mm from the long sides, using a Ø 6 mm bit.
• Smooth the horizontal edges of the panels to remove burrs from cutting.

Step 2: Assemble the Box

• Lay the 4 pieces flat and well aligned in the correct order, with the inner face facing down; join them with two strips of tape applied the full length, then flip the assembly over; apply epoxy adhesive into the grooves.
• Flip the strip and fold it into a box to join the pieces; before closing the last side and securing it with two more strips of tape, insert the 4 stiffening rods; remove the tape once the glue has set.
• Pass the suspension cables around the top rods.

Hanging the Chandelier
