Pediatrician Annie Andrews Runs for Lindsey Graham's Senate Seat 2026

Pediatrician Dr. Annie Andrews has launched a bold campaign for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the late Lindsey Graham, positioning herself as a champion for families and healthcare reform in South Carolina. Andrews, a Democrat from Mount Pleasant, spent 15 years at a children’s hospital in Charleston, where she witnessed firsthand the failures of America’s “broken” public healthcare system. Her entry into politics was driven by a conviction that systemic problems require systemic solutions—and that electing leaders who care about kids and families is the first step.

From Pediatrician to Political Candidate

Andrews gained national attention when she ran for Congress in 2022, and now she’s aiming for the Senate. Her campaign is built on grassroots donations and a message of putting people before party. “The problems that South Carolinians are facing did not change over that weekend,” she said, referring to Graham’s sudden death. “My opponent will change but my mission remains the same.” Her primary opponent is Darline Graham, the late senator’s sister, who was appointed to finish his term and will face a primary election next month.

What Andrews’ Campaign Means for South Carolina

Andrews is running as the antithesis of career politicians. Her experience as a pediatrician shapes her policy priorities: affordable healthcare, education funding, and economic opportunity for working families. She has been endorsed by several grassroots organizations and hopes to become the state’s first female senator. “I’ve seen what happens when families can’t afford insulin or can’t take their kids to the doctor,” she said. “That’s not a Republican or Democrat issue—it’s a human issue.”
