Andy Burnham's reshuffle has reportedly triggered the resignation of Anas Sarwar as Scottish Labour leader, reshaping the political landscape. The move comes as Burnham forms a new government with major departmental changes, aiming to drive economic growth and address cost-of-living pressures.
Key Changes in the Burnham Cabinet
The reshuffle has created a powerful new Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, led by ally Louise Haigh. This body will oversee No 10 operations in London, the new No 10 North in Manchester, and parts of the Cabinet Office. The defence secretary Wes Streeting indicated military budgets will rise by over £25bn to hit a NATO target of 3.5% of GDP by 2035, up from 2.6%.

Anas Sarwar's Exit and Implications
Reports confirm Anas Sarwar is set to step down as Scottish Labour leader to take a ministerial role in Burnham's government. This decision follows a deeply factional reshuffle that removed or demoted more than half of the outgoing prime minister's cabinet. Critics say the reshuffle undermines Burnham's pledge to end infighting.
