Bruno Guimarães Transfer: Arsenal Move Nears as Newcastle Stars 2026

Bruno Guimarães is on the verge of a blockbuster transfer to Arsenal after being notably absent from Newcastle United’s flight to their pre-season camp in Murcia. The Brazilian midfielder’s omission has intensified speculation that a deal with the Gunners is imminent, while Newcastle’s new head coach Matthias Jaissle prepares to take charge.

Bruno Guimarães Transfer: Why He Missed the Flight

The 26-year-old playmaker was not among the Newcastle squad that departed for southern Spain on Friday, with reports suggesting he remains in Brazil. This absence is a clear indicator that the club expects his departure, as Arsenal have long been linked with a move to bolster their midfield. The transfer could reshape both clubs’ ambitions for the upcoming Premier League season.

Newcastle’s Transition: Eddie Howe Departs, Jaissle Arrives

Eddie Howe’s emotional exit was confirmed late Friday, ending a nearly five-year tenure that saw the club rise from relegation battlers to a top-four contender. His successor, Matthias Jaissle, is expected to join the squad at La Manga over the weekend. The transition is further complicated by the departure of four key backroom staff, including assistant Jason Tindall.

Howe’s statement praised the club and its supporters, saying, "It has been the privilege of my lifetime to have been the manager of Newcastle United." The amicable split was echoed by executive David Hopkinson, who noted Howe and his staff leave "with the deep gratitude and respect of everyone at Newcastle United."

Arsenal’s Pursuit: What Guimarães Brings to the Emirates

Arsenal have been proactive in the transfer market, and securing Guimarães would be a major statement of intent. His ability to dictate tempo, break up play, and contribute goals makes him an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s system. The midfielder’s arrival could provide the depth needed to challenge for the title.

Potential Impact on Newcastle’s Squad

Losing Guimarães would be a significant blow, but the fee—reportedly around £100 million—could fund multiple reinforcements. Jaissle will need to quickly assess his squad and identify targets to maintain competitiveness. The club’s hierarchy has shown ambition, but replacing a player of Guimarães’s caliber is never easy.
