The $1.15tn defense bill passed the US House amid a standoff over Israel and Trump's voter agenda, highlighting deep partisan divides. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) cleared the Republican-controlled chamber by a 216-212 vote, with only six Democrats supporting it.
Key Provisions of the Defense Bill
The NDAA includes military pay raises of 5-7%, codifies the name “Department of War” for the Pentagon, and allocates significant funds for generational investments. House Armed Services Chair Mike Rogers stated the bill “begins to reverse the damage caused by decades of underinvestment.”

Political Standoffs Complicate Passage
Democrats opposed the bill after President Trump joined Israel in attacking Iran without congressional approval, and after House Speaker Mike Johnson inserted the Save America Act—a Trump-backed proposal to ban mail-in ballots and impose stricter voter ID laws. These additions turned the normally bipartisan NDAA into a partisan flashpoint.
