Man City £85m Bouaddi Signing Nears as Rodri Exit Looms 2026

Manchester City are closing in on a blockbuster £85m deal for Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, a move that is expected to soften the blow of Rodri's anticipated exit to Barcelona. The 18-year-old Moroccan prodigy has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions, though the clubs are still finalizing the transfer fee, with Lille holding out for around €100m (£85m). This signing signals a major squad overhaul as City prepare for life without their Ballon d'Or-winning pivot.

Why Bouaddi is the Ideal Rodri Replacement

Ayyoub Bouaddi has emerged as one of Europe's most exciting young midfield talents. Despite his age, he has already made over 60 senior appearances for Lille in Ligue 1 and European competitions, showcasing remarkable composure, passing range, and defensive awareness. His arrival at the Etihad would provide an immediate, long-term solution to the void left by Rodri, who has been the undisputed anchor of City's midfield since 2019.

New City manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly eager to integrate Bouaddi straight into the first team, bypassing any loan spell. This reflects the club's confidence in his ability to adapt to the high-intensity demands of the Premier League. With the Community Shield against Arsenal on Sunday and the league opener against Bournemouth on August 23, Bouaddi could be thrust into action quickly.

Rodri's Barcelona Move: What's the Latest?

Barcelona are increasingly confident of securing Rodri's signature, but they must improve on their initial €45m bid, which was rejected last week. The 30-year-old Spaniard has just one year left on his contract, giving City limited leverage. To finance the transfer, Barcelona are looking to sell Ferran Torres, who has attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain. City are resigned to losing Rodri, making the Bouaddi capture even more critical.

If completed, Bouaddi would join Elliot Anderson—who arrived from Nottingham Forest for a record £116m earlier this summer—in Maresca's revamped midfield. The departure of Bernardo Silva has further depleted City's options, making this window a defining moment for the club's future.

Transfer Comparison: Bouaddi vs. Rodri at Age 18

Key Takeaways from the Transfer Saga

• Manchester City are finalizing an £85m deal for Ayyoub Bouaddi, who has agreed personal terms.
• Rodri is expected to join Barcelona, with a rejected €45m bid already on the table.
• Bouaddi will likely join Elliot Anderson in a new-look midfield under Enzo Maresca.
• Barcelona may sell Ferran Torres to fund Rodri's purchase.
• Manchester United are also targeting Leicester's Louis Page, adding more drama to the window.

What This Means for City's Title Hopes

Losing Rodri would be a massive blow for any team, but City's proactive move for Bouaddi shows they are planning for the future. The teenager's ability to dictate tempo and break up play makes him a natural successor. However, adapting to the Premier League's physicality takes time, and Maresca may need to shield him initially.

With Arsenal and Liverpool strengthening, City cannot afford a slow start. The Community Shield will offer a first glimpse of how Maresca plans to use his new signings. If Bouaddi hits the ground running, City could maintain their dominance; if not, the title race could tighten significantly.
