Bestselling author Matt Haig, known for The Midnight Library and Reasons to Stay Alive, is opening a bookshop in Brighton called Golden. The store, set to launch by Christmas in the Seven Dials neighborhood, aims to fill a literary gap in the community. Haig, who grew up in a town without a bookshop, emphasizes that bookshops are essential for civilization and community well-being.
What Makes Golden Bookshop Unique?
Haig promises a curated selection of books, from mind-bending novels to banned books, graphic novels, and even vinyl records. The shop will host occasional evening events but avoid “stuffy vibes” or “genre snobbery.” Dogs are welcome, and the focus is on freedom and discovery.

Curated by the Author Himself
Haig will personally select titles alongside trusted curators. The inventory will include tearful books, fun reads, kids’ books, and art books. “We won’t be pushing things we don’t want to push,” he stated, ensuring an authentic experience for visitors.
