Nigel Farage vs Count Binface: Electoral Careers Compared 2026

Nigel Farage and Count Binface have taken very different paths in British politics, but their electoral careers now collide in the Clacton byelection. This visual guide compares their histories, from Farage's decades-long quest for a Commons seat to Binface's quixotic challenges against prime ministers.

Nigel Farage's Electoral Journey

Nigel Farage first stood for Parliament in 1994, finishing fourth behind Screaming Lord Sutch. He then won five elections to the European Parliament, becoming a dominant figure in UK politics. In 2024, he finally won a Commons seat as MP for Clacton, only to resign months later amid a parliamentary inquiry into a £5m gift.

Farage has faced many opponents over the years, including a young Rachel Reeves in 2006. His 2015 Thanet South campaign saw him vow to resign as UKIP leader if he lost—a promise he kept after defeat to Conservative Craig Mackinlay.

Count Binface's Quixotic Campaigns

Count Binface, the alter ego of comedian Jon Harvey, has stood against four prime ministers, including Theresa May, Boris Johnson, and Rishi Sunak. His campaigns are satirical, but he has gained a cult following. In the Clacton byelection, he faces Farage for the first time, alongside Laurence Fox of the Reclaim Party.
