Early Life and Career

Born in Zanzibar, Sadru was the eldest of three brothers. His father repaired radios, while his mother, a strong believer in education, woke her sons at 4am to study. After the Zanzibar revolution in 1964, the family moved to Tanzania, where Sadru began his accounting career with Deloitte associates.

He moved to Britain in 1969 and joined KPMG in 1973, rising to senior manager with a portfolio of quoted public companies. That same year, he married Teresa Warne, a librarian.

Legacy at L&Q Housing Trust

In 1981, Sadru joined L&Q, where he spent 20 years as group finance director. He guided the trust through transformational growth, increasing homes from 10,000 to 35,000 with turnover exceeding £100m. His pioneering work in accessing capital markets reduced dependence on grants.

Recognition and Community Work

Sadru was made OBE in 2005 for his services to social housing. He also served as a school governor, treasurer of Age Concern Newham, and member of the Aga Khan Economic Planning Board. His Ismaili faith remained central to his life.
