A US man has been charged with impersonating doctors to illegally obtain Ozempic and other weight loss drugs, according to federal prosecutors. The scheme allegedly involved using stolen physician credentials to prescribe GLP-1 medications for profit.
The Alleged Scheme: Impersonating Doctors for Ozempic
Rodney Greer, an Illinois man, is accused of posing as physicians to secure unauthorized prescriptions for Ozempic and Mounjaro. Prosecutors say he used doctors' personal identification numbers (NPIs) to call pharmacies and falsely claim to be a healthcare provider. Greer, who also went by the alias Christian Marchand and the online handle “$hotboy1,” allegedly ran the operation from early 2023 through March 2026.

How the Fraud Worked
According to court filings, Greer kept handwritten lists containing personal information for about 60 doctors across 19 states. He then called approximately 261 pharmacies on 3,329 separate occasions, impersonating physicians to obtain GLP-1 prescriptions. In exchange for these illicit prescriptions, customers paid Greer money, and he enabled the unauthorized redemption of hundreds of thousands of dollars in insurance benefits.
