Breakout Americana star Brennan Wedl has unveiled a deeply personal new self-titled album that marks a profound artistic liberation. The songwriting is so ironclad that listeners might mistake her originals for classics by Lucinda Williams or Sheryl Crow. In this exclusive feature, we explore how Wedl freed herself through song.
The Making of a Breakout Americana Album
Produced by Waxahatchee (Katie Crutchfield) and her longtime producer Brad Cook, the album came together after Snail Mail's Lindsey Jordan introduced Crutchfield to Wedl's music. Crutchfield, who had never produced before, was immediately struck by Wedl's voice: 'It's immediately iconic, so timeless and confident – for someone who was, at the time, so undiscovered.'
