The Swedish puppet play featuring bonking Barbies is taking audiences by storm with its explicit sex scenes and daring adaptation of Jackie Collins' debut novel. Erik Holmström, director of Malmö Dockteater, brings a wild vision to life where reconstructed Barbie dolls engage in graphic acts on a miniature set of 14 dollhouses.
What Is the Swedish Puppet Play with Bonking Barbies?
This experimental production adapts Jackie Collins's novel The World Is Full of Married Men, which was banned in several countries in 1968 for its raunchy content. The show features headless Ken dolls with tiny plastic penises and Barbies with drilled crotches, all performed live with puppeteers acting as life-size versions of the dolls. The action is captured up close by a videographer and livestreamed onto a large screen.

Why This Show Is Shocking Audiences
Holmström says he dreamed of making a show where the audience secretly becomes horny, something unexpected from puppet theatre. The production merges theatre, film, and sexually active puppets, leaving nothing hidden. After performances in Malmö and Stockholm, the show is now at the Yard theatre in east London, performed in Swedish with English subtitles.
