TV's happiest endings often leave audiences with tears of joy, and few shows deliver that better than The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and 30 Rock. Both finales are masterclasses in wrapping up character arcs with warmth and wit. Let's dive into what made these concluding episodes so special.
The Marvelous Mrs Maisel Finale: A Standing Ovation for Midge
In the final season of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) finally gets her big break on a late-night show. The scene is electric: she commands the stage, delivers a killer set, and earns a thunderous ovation. The show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, ties every thread together beautifully.

Key Moments in the Mrs Maisel Finale
- Midge’s breakthrough performance on the Gordon Ford show
- Susie’s tearful reaction in the wings
- The time jump showing the duo’s lifelong friendship
The finale’s emotional punch comes when Midge looks over at Susie (Alex Borstein) with a tear in her eye, hand on heart. It’s a perfect payoff for a seven-season journey.
30 Rock: The Meta Masterpiece
30 Rock ended its run in 2013 with a two-part finale that was as clever as the series itself. Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) had already achieved marriage and motherhood earlier in the season – subverting the typical sitcom ending. Instead, the finale brought back TGS for one last episode, tying up every character’s story while staying true to the show’s meta-humor.
What Made the 30 Rock Finale Work
- Liz realising she needs both career and family
- Jack Donaghy’s final power play
- The “uncancelling” of TGS as a metaphor for the show itself
The show’s creator Tina Fey ensured the finale celebrated the chaotic, brilliant workplace comedy that fans loved.
