US Soccer CEO JT Batson made his first public remarks regarding President Donald Trump’s controversial involvement in the Folarin Balogun red card saga, deflecting questions about the federation’s stance. During a media roundtable, Batson emphasized the team’s support but avoided direct criticism of Trump’s lobbying efforts.
Trump’s Role in Balogun’s Suspension
Trump personally called FIFA president Gianni Infantino multiple times to challenge Balogun’s red card after the forward stepped on a Bosnia and Herzegovina player’s ankle. FIFA later suspended the ban but denied Trump’s influence. Balogun’s one-match ban was overturned, sparking outrage among fans and analysts who questioned the fairness of the process.
