It's up to you to decide whether to use the sliding tray permanently as an accessory or only when needed—to remove it, just lift it up. This way, whoever is sitting in a favorable position can slide everything needed to others with a simple lateral push of the sliding tabletop tray; they, in turn, can return the favor without anyone having to get up from their seat.

What You Need to Build a Sliding Coffee Table Tray

• MDF 25 mm thick: 2 pieces 200×400 mm, 1 piece 965×400 mm (indicative measurements for the pictured table; leave 30 mm clearance between the table and the piece you build)
• 4 fixed casters, 35 mm high
• 8 screws Ø 4×20 mm
• 6 beech dowels Ø 10 mm
• Vinyl glue
• Primer and enamel paint

After assembling the three panels that make up the add-on, lightly sand all visible edges to avoid overly sharp surfaces; if desired, you can also fill the joint lines for a monolithic look. MDF absorbs a lot, so apply a generous coat of primer to prepare the surfaces for finishing.
