Thailand School Shooting: Teen Suspect Kills 7, Injures 30 2026

Thailand school shooting news reveals a 14-year-old suspect killed at least seven people and injured more than 30, officials say, in a tragic incident at Debsirin secondary school in Bangkok. The attack, which occurred on October 3, 2023, involved the suspect first fatally shooting his grandparents at home before proceeding to the school, where he opened fire on teachers and students. This devastating event has reignited debates about gun ownership and school safety in Thailand, a country with one of the highest rates of private gun ownership in the world.

Details of the Thailand School Shooting Incident

The suspect, a 14-year-old male student at Debsirin School, used a handgun belonging to his grandfather. Police reported that he killed two grandparents at their residence, then traveled to the school and began shooting. Five teachers were shot at the school before the suspect turned the gun on himself, according to conflicting casualty figures. At least 30 people were injured, with nine believed to be severely wounded.

Victims and Injuries

Among the injured, a 12-year-old girl remains in a coma with a bullet wound to the head. Two other patients underwent surgery and are in stable condition. The health minister, Phatthana Phromphat, visited Phra Nang Klao hospital to oversee treatment. The school announced that all classes would be suspended from August 10-14, with staff working from home.

Government Response and Gun Control Proposals

Thailand's prime minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, stated that the suspect was "under stress" and appeared to have planned the assault. He vowed to propose a new law restricting public firearm carrying, citing the country's high rate of private gun ownership. This incident follows several mass shootings in recent years, prompting urgent calls for reform.
