Ex-PE Teacher Bronwen James Faces Jail for Pupil Abuse 2026

Former PE teacher Bronwen James is facing a lengthy jail sentence after admitting to grooming and sexually abusing three pupils at two schools in Hampshire and Wiltshire. The 30-year-old, from Chippenham in Wiltshire, pleaded guilty to offences against two girls and was found guilty by a jury of charges involving a boy. The Crown Prosecution Service described her crimes as "a sustained pattern of predatory behaviour against children in her care."

Details of the Abuse

During her trial at Winchester Crown Court, jurors heard that James flirted with a 16-year-old boy in her class at a school in Southampton. She began exchanging Snapchat messages with him and arranged to drive him to a promenade, where they kissed in her car. Later, they went to her house, where they cuddled while watching Wimbledon on television before going to her bedroom, where they had sex. James told the boy she loved him and wanted him to move away with her.

The abuse came to light after another student showed a teacher text messages apparently sent between James and the complainant. The school then alerted the authorities. James also admitted offences against two girls at schools in Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

Judge James Bromige asked for reports to be prepared on James so that he could assess the danger she posed when sentencing her later this year. Her defence team said she knew she faced a significant jail sentence. The Crown Prosecution Service praised the teenagers she targeted for coming forward.
