Fifa Super League: Infantino's Secret Deal Exposed in Leaked Term 2026

The Fifa Super League was a secret rebranding proposal discussed by Gianni Infantino, according to a leaked term sheet from October 2020 that exposes the extent of Fifa's involvement in the ill-fated European breakaway. This document reveals how global football's governing body planned to lend its name and structure to a competition that later sparked widespread fan outrage in April 2021. The term sheet, now fully revealed for the first time, shows Fifa's leadership was deeply entangled in a scheme to reshape European football under corporate control.

What the Leaked Term Sheet Reveals About the Fifa Super League

The term sheet, dated October 2020, outlines a partnership of at least 12 years between Fifa and the proposed Super League, including a joint venture to run commercial operations. It also proposes renaming the breakaway competition under Fifa's branding, effectively creating a Fifa Super League. The document further details plans for an expanded Club World Cup, referred to as the "global club competition," to be held annually over a three-week period, tied directly to the Super League.

Key Provisions in the Document

• Golden share for Fifa, granting special governance and political rights.
• Reduction of international windows to accommodate the new competition.
• Bypassing member associations in the plan's formation, despite formal approval requirements.
• A straight knockout format for the global club competition, unlike the 2025 group-based version.

Infantino's Role and the Fallout

Gianni Infantino was among several Fifa staff involved in the project and was fully aware of its progression, according to sources. The term sheet states that while the new tournaments would need approval from Fifa's congress and council, federations worldwide were sidelined during the planning. This revelation comes in a week when Infantino scrapped a separate plan to sell World Cup broadcasting rights to private investors, highlighting a pattern of controversial governance.
