MPs' staff are calling for urgently tightened security after reports of physical attacks, threats, and abuse. A new survey reveals 78% of more than 500 parliamentary staff received threatening communications, and nearly one in three fear for their own or colleagues' safety.
Why MPs' Staff Need Better Protection
The survey, conducted by the Westminster-based wellness working group (WWG) and psychologist Dr Ashley Weinberg, shows that 30% of staff frequently fear for their safety—up from 18.7% five years ago. Seventy-three staffers reported frequent exposure to racist or prejudiced language, while 188 experienced it sometimes. One in four felt pressured to comply with requests that could compromise their safety.
