US Military Response
The US military has vowed to swiftly punish Iran for the attack on Jordan that left two US service members dead and one missing. In response, the US launched further strikes, targeting Iranian-backed forces. Iran claimed that the US attacked an under-construction nuclear power plant in Khuzestan province, a claim the UN nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, is investigating.
Regional Impact
The conflict has spread beyond Iraq. In Kuwait, a power and water distillation plant was attacked for a second consecutive day. Air defenses in Jordan and Bahrain also intercepted strikes. These developments have heightened fears of a wider regional war.
