Tour de France 2026: Vingegaard Crashes Out, Evenepoel Wins Stage 2026

The Tour de France 2026 took a dramatic turn on stage 15 as Jonas Vingegaard crashed out, leaving Remco Evenepoel to claim a stunning victory. The double Tour champion, who also won this year’s Giro d’Italia, was forced to abandon the race after a fall on the approach to the Plateau de Solaison. The day was filled with bewildering drama, including early-morning doping controls that may have impacted rider focus.

Vingegaard’s Crash and Early Morning Doping Controls

Jonas Vingegaard crashed out of the Tour de France on the approach to the Alpine climb of Plateau de Solaison, just hours after being woken up at 2am for doping controls by the ITA. He climbed gingerly into a race ambulance with his right arm in a sling after falling as the main peloton exited a roundabout in Bonneville. Race leader Tadej Pogacar also underwent an unexpected nocturnal test, and both riders spoke about the experience before the stage began.

Pogacar commented, “We are competitors and also kind of friends. The tour will not be the same without him. It got me thinking that maybe you are a little less concentrated after the early doping. I don’t blame that but it could be connected.” This incident has sparked debate about the timing of doping controls and their potential effect on rider safety.
