Mateo Pulcini celebrated a 40-foot putt at The Open with an Enzo Fernández-inspired gesture, blending golf and football passion. The only Argentinian in the field, Pulcini raised his hands and cupped his ears after sinking the long putt on the first day, drawing cheers from the 70,000-strong crowd despite the R&A's new code of conduct. His risky celebration echoed Fernández's World Cup goal celebration against England, and fans responded with enthusiasm, not hostility.
The Celebration That Stole the Show
Pulcini, a 25-year-old who qualified for The Open by winning the Latin America Amateur Championship, admitted he loved the crowd's reaction. “I really don’t mind. It’s part of the fun. The fans are something spectacular,” he said. The celebration came after a challenging round that left him five over par, but the moment of joy with the crowd was unforgettable.

Golf and Football: A Shared Passion
Pulcini sported Argentina flags on his driver head cover, cap, and shoes, and even chatted with English player Matt Wallace before the round, joking about Argentina's World Cup win. When asked about the team's political banner, he declined to comment, saying, “I don’t want to talk politics, just golf and football.” His focus remains on the sport and the fans.
