Samsung One UI 9 Android 17 Update: Rollout, Features, and Timeline 2026

Samsung has officially started rolling out One UI 9 based on Android 17 to its Galaxy devices, beginning with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and other foldables that shipped with the new software out of the box. The update brings a host of new features, with a heavy emphasis on artificial intelligence, but as always, the rollout will be gradual—so patience is key.

What's New in One UI 9?

One UI 9 introduces a refreshed visual design and smoother animations, but the real star is AI. Samsung has integrated AI deeply into the system, enhancing both new and existing features. Security also gets a boost with the latest Android security patches, complemented by Samsung's own Knox protections on many models.

Here are the key highlights of One UI 9:

• AI-powered enhancements across the interface, from camera to battery management.
• Improved security with Android 17's latest patches and Knox integration.
• Refined animations and visual changes for a smoother experience.
• New and updated features that leverage on-device and cloud AI.
• Availability may vary by region and require a Samsung account for some functions.

Which Samsung Devices Are Compatible?

Samsung has a generous track record of updating many of its devices, and One UI 9 will likely follow suit. While the full list hasn't been officially confirmed, we expect flagship models from recent years—like the Galaxy S23 series and newer—to be among the first in line. Foldables such as the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 already have the update, and older foldables like the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 should receive it soon.

Mid-range devices may also get the update, but typically later in the cycle. To check if your device is eligible, keep an eye on Samsung's official announcements and your phone's software update section.

Rollout Timeline: When Will You Get It?

The rollout has just begun, so it will take time to reach all compatible devices. Samsung usually stages updates by region and carrier, meaning some users will get it days or even weeks before others. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 are first, followed by other flagship phones and then mid-range models.

To check for the update manually, go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If it's not available yet, don't worry—it's on the way. Context on how this played out before sits in Samsung One UI 9 Android 17 Update: Rollout, Features, and Timeline.
