Huawei MatePad Air 12 Review: OLED PaperMatte and 10,000mAh Battery 2026

The Huawei MatePad Air 12 is now available in Spain, bringing a 12-inch OLED PaperMatte display and a battery rated at over 10,000 mAh to the company's growing tablet lineup. Priced at €799, it launches with a €749 promotional offer on Huawei's official store and Amazon, and both retailers include the M-Pencil Pro stylus as a gift.

This new Air model weighs just 509 grams and measures 5.3 millimeters thick, making it one of the most portable 12-inch tablets on the market. The launch promotion adds significant value, especially for users who plan to use the tablet for note-taking or sketching.

Huawei MatePad Air 12 Design and Portability

The MatePad Air 12 lives up to its name with a slim 5.3mm profile and a weight of 509 grams. To put that in perspective, the 11-inch iPad Air M4 is 0.8mm thicker and 45 grams lighter, even though it has a smaller screen. The MatePad Air 12's larger 12-inch panel makes its low weight particularly impressive.

Huawei has clearly prioritized portability without sacrificing screen real estate. The tablet should slip easily into a bag and remain comfortable for extended reading or writing sessions. The metal build quality, typical of Huawei's recent tablets, adds to its premium feel.

OLED PaperMatte Display: Anti-Reflective and Paper-Like

The centerpiece of the MatePad Air 12 is its 12-inch OLED PaperMatte display, which offers a resolution of 2800 x 1840 pixels, a 144Hz refresh rate, and 275 ppi. Huawei's PaperMatte technology reduces glare and adds a subtle paper-like texture, making it ideal for use with the M-Pencil Pro.

This combination makes the screen versatile for both media consumption and productivity. Whether you're watching videos, browsing the web, or sketching, the anti-reflective coating helps maintain visibility in bright environments. The 144Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and responsive pen input.

Performance and Battery Life

Huawei has not disclosed the exact processor model, but the MatePad Air 12 is expected to handle everyday tasks and multitasking with ease. The 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (as listed in the promotional material) suggest a configuration aimed at mainstream users who need reliable performance for work and entertainment.

The battery capacity exceeds 10,000 mAh, which should translate to all-day usage even with the high-refresh-rate display. Fast charging support is likely, though Huawei has not yet specified the wattage. For a tablet of this size, the battery life will be a key selling point for users who travel or work remotely.

M-Pencil Pro and Software Experience

The M-Pencil Pro comes bundled during the launch promotion, adding immediate value for creative users and note-takers. The PaperMatte texture enhances the writing experience by providing tactile feedback similar to pen on paper. Huawei's ecosystem also includes productivity features like multi-window and app multitasking.

Software-wise, the MatePad Air 12 runs Huawei's HarmonyOS, which offers a range of tablet-optimized apps and seamless integration with other Huawei devices. While the app ecosystem may not match Android or iPadOS in sheer volume, key productivity apps are available.

Pricing and Availability

The Huawei MatePad Air 12 is available now in Spain for €799, but the launch promotion drops the price to €749 on Huawei's official store and Amazon. Both retailers include the M-Pencil Pro as a free gift, which normally retails separately. This makes the launch offer particularly attractive for anyone considering the tablet.

Compared to other premium tablets, the MatePad Air 12 competes on display quality and portability. The OLED PaperMatte screen is a standout feature that sets it apart from many LCD-based rivals.
