Gregg Araki on Queer Resistance, Sex, and Film: I Want Your Sex 2026

Gregg Araki's new film 'I Want Your Sex' is a bold exploration of queer resistance, sexual repression, and the perverse nature of straight sex. The director, a pioneer of the New Queer Cinema movement, delivers a deliriously fun and often hilarious study of desire, power, and art that challenges conventional norms and celebrates alternative sexuality.

Gregg Araki's Vision: Queer Joy in a Troubled World

In an era marked by global conflicts and social unrest, Araki aims to inject queer joy and positivity into the world. His film, starring Cooper Hoffman and Olivia Wilde, follows a young graduate who becomes entangled with a sexually carnivorous artist, leading to a polymorphous parade of sexual epiphanies. The director's anarchic vision has finally caught up with Hollywood, as the film opens on 700 US screens, a record for an independent queer film.

The Straight-Queer Spectrum: Redefining Perversion

Araki challenges the notion that straight sex is the most perverse of all, presenting a narrative that spans the straight-queer spectrum. The film features bondage, full-frontal nudity, and a vagina made of pink bubble gum, all in service of exploring kink and alternate sexuality. This approach is a testament to Araki's belief that sexual repression is at the root of societal ills, a theme he has explored throughout his 40-year career.
