Wham! 10 Days in China is a documentary with a story that transcends pop music, capturing a pivotal moment when a Western band first performed in Communist China. Directed by the legendary Lindsay Anderson, this film explores the intersection of music, politics, and cultural diplomacy during a historic 1985 tour.
The Bold Plan to Break America Through China
Manager Simon Napier-Bell masterminded a daring strategy: send Wham! to China to generate worldwide publicity and finally crack the US market. After months of negotiations with Chinese officials, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley became the first Western pop act to play in the People's Republic, performing sold-out shows in Beijing and Guangzhou.

Anderson's Uncomfortable Vision
Film producer Martin Lewis hired Lindsay Anderson to direct the documentary, expecting a promotional reel. Instead, Anderson pursued a gritty culture-clash narrative, often clashing with the band and their team. His disdain for Wham!'s music was no secret, and he was fired after the tour ended.
