Football Transfer Deadline Day: Missed Deals and Winter Window 2026

Football transfer deadline day chaos saw several high-profile deals collapse, leaving clubs like Everton and Chelsea frustrated. The Premier League transfer window slammed shut at 11pm, but not before a flurry of last-minute negotiations and failed moves.

Everton's Late Heartbreak: Balogun Deal Falls Through

Everton were left ruing what could have been after a late move for US international Folarin Balogun collapsed. The striker had undergone a medical with the Toffees, which reportedly uncovered an issue. Despite renegotiating with Monaco and drawing up a deal sheet, Balogun ultimately decided against the move.

This blow compounds Everton's attacking woes, having already lost Beto to Fiorentina and Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City earlier in the window.

Monaco's Double Drama

Monaco were central to deadline day drama. Their midfielder Lamine Camara appeared destined for Chelsea after initial bids were rejected, but a €55m fee was eventually agreed. However, after Everton's interest in Balogun, Monaco pulled out of the Camara deal, and the timing meant no deal sheet could be filed before the deadline.

What Went Wrong? Key Takeaways

• Medical issues can derail even the most advanced transfer negotiations.
• Deal sheets must be submitted before the deadline, or the transfer fails.
• Player decisions can override club agreements, as seen with Balogun.
