The Ukraine war ceasefire talks are gaining momentum as Ukrainian and US officials discuss a proposal to offer Russia an air ceasefire, just ahead of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's scheduled meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington. This development comes amid ongoing hostilities and fresh drone incidents.
Trump-Zelenskyy Meeting Set Against Ceasefire Talks
President Zelenskyy is due to meet Trump on Tuesday, with the air ceasefire proposal expected to be a central topic. The Kremlin, however, has adopted a cautious stance. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, stated that Russia considers it premature to comment on the proposal, noting that they need to understand how any new formulas correspond to their interests.

Key Developments in the Ukraine Conflict
Meanwhile, Romania, a NATO member, has escalated its response after its military shot down a third drone in as many days. A Romanian F-16 fighter jet intercepted a drone over the Black Sea, five minutes after it entered Romanian airspace. Defense Minister Radu Miruță confirmed the action, and Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu condemned the repeated violations. President Nicușor Dan reported that an investigation identified a downed drone on Friday as a Shahed model used by Russia in its war of aggression.
In a separate incident, the cargo vessel Golden Leo sank off the coast of Ukraine’s Black Sea port of Odesa. Ukrainian officials said the ship had been struck by Russian forces a week earlier while carrying a cargo of corn. Nine crew members were killed, and eight were evacuated. Russia’s defense ministry claimed its forces had struck Ukrainian ports and shipping infrastructure.
